WHAT IS REMY HAIR?
To some, Remy hair may mean nothing, while to others, it is the Holy Grail of human hair weaves. In the business of human hair, it can be said that Remy hair is the best and highest quality of human hair available in the market. So, the million-dollar question for the less enlightened is: what is Remy hair made from that makes it so sought after in the world of human hair?
It is worthy of note that there are certain components of human hair that are very important and a breakdown of these components will help us understand what makes Remy hair stand out as a leader.
COMPONENTS OF HUMAN HAIR
The three vital parts of a human hair strand are the medulla, cortex and the cuticle. When you understand these components, you could use them when trying you want to determine the quality when next you buy weaves.
The medulla is the innermost layer of the hair shaft. It is very fragile and almost invisible to the naked eye. The medulla exists, even though no one can exhaustively say what it does.
The cortex is the shaft lying between the cuticle and the medulla. This is where the hair gets its color. It is also the thickest part of the hair.
The cuticle is the outside layer of the human hair strand. The cuticle is an important factor in determining if the human hair is Remy or Non-Remy. The cuticle gives the hair protection. The cuticles are made up of overlapping dead cells. These dead cells give the hair strands strength and protection, and when the hair is collected, this protection ensures that it lasts longer.
WHAT IS REMY HAIR?
When you closely inspect natural hair, you’ll see that the hair lies in a downward position, same goes for the cuticles in your own natural hair. In turn, if the entire cuticle aligns in the same direction, you can tell that the hair is Remy hair. In actual sense, Remy hair is expensive because of the methods used in getting it.
To get Remy hair, the hair collectors hold the hair in a ponytail and cut from the top to preserve the original texture and direction of the cuticles. This ensures that the hair’s cuticles stay aligned in the same direction. For other cheaper hairs, the ponytail method is absent, and the collectors often just cut the hair and let everything scatter to the floor to be gathered later. Usually, the cuticles get scattered all over by the time the hair is gathered from the ground.
Remy hair is high-quality and also highly sought-after. Because of this, many hair companies market cheaper hair as Remy hair. You have to look a little closer to make sure you’re getting your money’s worth. You wouldn’t want to fork out a large sum of money just to get hair that’s supposedly Remy only to find out later that you had been cheated out of your money.
